Life in the heart of the Evangelical South has led me to an immersive experience with the tangled culture at the core of the American evangelical movement. To see so many individuals with golden, giving hearts and best intentions be captained by televangelists, celebrity-revivalists, and even small town preachers corrupted by partisan desire is a daily occurrence. The fierce dedication people here have towards a divine covenant has become unrecognizably twisted with a reckless, one-dimensional idolatry that directs every ounce of hate and ferocity towards those who do not co-sign the use of whatever means necessary to secure the future ‘sanctity’ of America.
